Whether its a guest starring appearance on “Gossip Girl” or being featured on a TV commercial, getting cast is usually the final step for an actor in search of a job. Being prepared is the key to a successful career. Many believe that just meeting a casting director is all that is needed to “get the job”. Well, here’s a reality check: Casting Directors meet or see hundreds if not thousands of eager actors. Which means that unless there is something spectacular, unique, special about you, chances are that you will not be remembered. There is hope however. Consider working with a Casting Director who also teaches a class. This is now a double win for you. Leonard Burnsteins’ MASS was so well received at Carnegie Hall the decision was made to produce an album of the event. The Baltimore Symphony Orchestra Under the direction of Marin Alsop and cast assembled by Pat McCorkle completed the album under the “Best of All Possible Worlds Project”. The music/cast album has been selected and nominated for a Grammy Award. Congratulations to Pat McCorkle whose background in Film, Television, Broadway, and Theater can now add another feather in her cap! Emmy, Tony, Oscar and now Grammy award winning projects…wow!

So I work at TVI and I’m in Jonathan Strauss’ Advanced TV/Film class here as well, learning to make the most of my audition technique and acting skills for Film and TV. And I have to confess… it works! Today I went in for the NBC show Mercy – a small role – but using what Jonathan teaches turned it into so much more – not just as a good thing for the audition but for me as an actor! It made my audition much fuller and enjoyable so whether I book the role or not (and of course I want to book it!), I came away feeling secure and satisfied with my performance and that’s exactly where I want to be as a working actor.

TVI founder Alan S Nusbaum lunched in Chelsea today with renown NY casting director Liz Lewis. “We have known each other since 1982!” Liz commented. That is 27 years. Liz was the main casting director at Claire Casting, a casting company run but legendary casting director Claire Schull. when I was a talent agent at the former Cunningham, Escott, Dipene, now Cunningham, Escott, Slevin Doherty.

Did fearless Los Angeles casting director Debi Manwiller (partner of Pagano/Manwiller) of “24″, 2 time Emmy winner and mother of 3 think she was Jack Bauer? After arriving in Sydney at 7:00am last Friday, she was on top of the Harbour Bridge by noon!

And this was just the start of her Sydney expedition! Saturday, in North Sydney she conducted a question and answer seminar for close to 150 Sydney actors and in the afternoon lead a master class for some of Australia’s finest.

Bet Jack Bauer could not do that after a 15 hour flight form Los Angeles.
