Matt DeCapua, former TVI Member turned Career Coach, has been missed the last few months in our New York Office. But with a busy career working on stage in Florida and the currently running William Saroyan classic The Time of Your Life at the Storm Theatre in NYC and his performance on last night’s Law & Order: SVU, we couldn’t be happier for him. Still, he could come visit every now and then. Maybe we’ll see him in the next Jonathan Strauss (casting director for Law & Order: SVU) class here at TVI.

TVI member, Elena Campbell-Martinez, just booked a co-star on an episode of the CBS series Big Bang Theory. Elena attended a workshop with Valko/Miller Casting director, Tara Treacy, the week before and then was promptly called for an audition. Coincidence? I think not!

Congratulations to Kim Miscia, who not only has time to walk the red carpet at the Emmies, nominated for for ‘Outstanding Casting For A Drama Series’ (for the definitely outstanding pilot episode of Mad Men) but will also be teaching an on camera intensive ‘auditioning for prime-time’ workshop at TVI Actors Studios NY this weekend on September 27th. Make sure to ask your consultants about it as space is limited and going fast. The class focuses on fine tuning auditions by working on camera with actual scripts. Actors will explore the auditioning process with an award winning industry expert and learn about everything from auditioning etiquette to current trends and politics of the industry. Don’t miss this invaluable opportunity. To view the class flier download it here: Kim Miscia Int_9-08revised_Flyer.pdf

Last night, many of New York’s Finest Actors and Entertainers took home the Television Academy’s highest honor for their work on television. Among the biggest winners were New York’s favorite comedy duo, Alec Baldwin and Tina Fey. 30 Rock, celebrating its second year as the Academy’s choice for Outstanding Comedy Series, had a big night with Tina Fey’s two wins for Best Actress in a Comedy and for her brilliant Best Writing for a Comedy Series. Alec Baldwin took home another Emmy for Best Actor in a Comedy Series. And actors, you’ll often find Katja Blichfield, Casting Associate for 30 Rock, at TVI Actors Studio.
You many not know this, but Alec Baldwin made his Broadway debut nearly three decades ago in a show called Loot which also starred Zeljko Ivanek, last night’s winner for Best Supporting Actor in a Drama Series in New York’s own Damages. Zeljko has has entertained Broadway audiences for years with recent turns in The Caine Mutiny Court-Martial and The Pillowman. We’ve seen this gifted actor in numerous television shows and films, and as one of his biggest fans I am so glad to see him receiving such distinction for his talent. And Actors, Ross Meyerson will be at TVI Actors Studio in October - he casts Damages with Julie Tucker Casting.
Glenn Close took home the Emmy for Best Actress in a Drama Series for Damages. Despite her major career as a movie star, Glenn’s roots are in the theatre, too. In fact, she’s appeared in Sunset Boulevard and The Real Thing which also featured a young Cynthia Nixon, Sex and the City galpal and Emmy winner for Best Guest Actress in a Drama Series for Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. Jonathan Strauss, Casting Director for Law & Order: Special Victims Unit currently teaches an advanced Television and Film Class at TVI Actors Studio.
We also saw Dianne Wiest take home the Emmy for Best Supporting Actress in a Drama Series for In Treatment, though she wasn’t present to accept the award…probably due to her current work in All My Sons on Broadway. Jeremy Piven, soon to be seen in Speed-the-Plow on Broadway, took home his second Emmy as well. Laura Linney, another lady of the stage who appeared on Broadway this year in Les Liasons Dangereuses, won her Emmy for Best Lead Actress in a Miniseries or Movie for John Adams.
The Colbert Report and The Daily Show were also winners last night. But, it’s important to note the number of talented actors working in television who started their careers on the stage. And its even more wonderful to see such powerhouse personalities like Alec Baldwin and Glenn Close come home to New York to remind us that there really are so many wonderful opportunities in this great city of ours. Congratulations to all of last nights winners and thank you for sharing your work with us and inspiring and employing New York actors.

TVI Members are caught in the act, literally, as they work on their scene for Gossip Girl casting director Daryl Eisenberg at TVI Actors Studio. Daryl partnered up students with sides she brought to class.
Tonight they worked on sides from two girlfriends fighting over a pocket pooch to teachers hitting on their students. All in a days work.
